About Me

Hi! I’m Damien, an adventurer and explorer. I want to visit every country in the world and slowly complete my bucket list. Exploring has always been in my blood. I grew up in a very small place where there was nothing to do, so I would explore. Everyday after school, I would go out and explore the fields and woods/forests for several hours and get home very late. Rain or wind or snow didn’t stop me, even the time my fingers turned blue and I could just about wiggle them after soaking them for 30 minutes in warm water. I even wanted to be an astronaut one day. Every summer we would go on family holidays to the north west coast of Ireland, and instead of playing on the beach or swimming in the sea, I would be climbing sand banks and hills. I am convinced this is why I love to travel now. I would always be thinking “what’s round the next corner”? or “what’s after this hill or through those trees?” and when I found out I would keep going.

I truly believe that going to new places and meeting people from there is the best thing ever. Usually I travel without a set plan and just wing it. It’s amazing how many times you do something based on the recommendation of someone you met in a hostel or your couchsurfing host. If you haven’t checked out couchsurfing yet then I suggest you look into it for your next trip. It is easily one of the best things I have ever done and you will become hooked like I have! For me, the places I love the most are the ‘middle of nowhere’ spots where there is no traffic noise and you can just sit and enjoy what is around you in silence.

I don’t know about other people but for me, doing a corporate 9 – 5 job is so depressing and it can make me feel incredibly lonely. I guess we are told to believe that we need to buy things and stuff to be happy. Unfortunately it doesn’t work for long and then you have to spend more money on new items. I almost despise money.
When I travel, I do not feel lonely. Even when I am on my own, the joy of discovering somewhere new is almost impossible to describe. In a way I think I am also searching for somewhere that feels like “home”, whatever that might be to me.

There are so many places in the world for me to see, so I have decided to travel more. I will share my experiences of the places and the people that I meet. Hopefully I wont make too many mistakes but if I do I will share the lessons that I have learned.

I do not know if I will ever find somewhere that feels like home. What I do know is that I will have a lot of fun in finding out, and that to me is more important!
